Bulk SMS for schools in Nepal

A school can send fee reminders, holiday and closure notices, exam schedules and attendance alerts to parents by SMS, in English or Nepali. SMS reaches a parent's mobile on NTC, Ncell or Smart Telecom without an app. Most of these messages are notices about a child already enrolled, which makes them transactional, not advertising.

What SMS messages can a school send to parents?

Schools typically send fee due reminders, closures for weather or strikes, exam timetables, result day notices, parent-teacher meeting dates and absence alerts. Each is short and needs to reach every parent, including those with basic phones. A notice of up to 160 English characters uses one credit per parent, so a whole-school message is easy to budget.

Example message

Dear parent, the school will stay closed tomorrow due to heavy rain. Classes resume on Sunday. Please check the notice board for homework.

Can a school send SMS in Nepali?

Yes. Nepali (Devanagari) is supported. A Nepali message is sent as Unicode, so one segment holds 70 characters instead of 160, and a longer notice uses more credits per parent. Keep routine Nepali notices short, and send long material, such as a full exam timetable, as a brief SMS that points parents to the notice board.

Example message

भोलि विद्यालय बिदा रहनेछ। आइतबारदेखि कक्षा सुरु हुनेछ।

Do school SMS notices need parent consent?

Notices about an enrolled student, such as fees due, closures and results, are transactional on a plain reading, not advertising. Admission campaigns sent to families who are not yet at the school are advertising, and Nepal's Advertisement (Regulation) Act 2076 requires the recipient's consent first. This is general information, not legal advice.

Can school SMS show the school's name as the sender?

Yes, once approved. Request a branded alphanumeric sender ID of up to 11 characters from the dashboard, such as a short form of the school's name. Until it is approved for your account, messages go out under a shared default sender ID, so name the school at the start of each message.

How does a school start sending SMS?

Fill in the lead form on the contact page, then open an account and complete KYC with the school's documents. A reviewer approves it, usually within 2 to 3 business days. For the first 7 days after approval an account can send up to 50 SMS a day to OTP-verified numbers only.
